Too much of literature? Try out these tours

HUBLI: A visit to the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will have an added attraction this time. Those visiting Gadag would be offered package tours to the world heritage sites of Hampi, Badami, Aihole and Pattadkal.
"This will help the delegates from Bangalore and other places visit places of tourist importance in north Karnataka," Sammelana reception committee secretary A B Hiremath told The Times of India. The Sammmelan is being held from February 19-21.
Organizers of the Sammelana have planned package tours to places of cultural or religious interest within a radius of 100 km from Gadag. The department of tourism and NWKRTC will conduct these tours. Delegates will be picked up from a bus stop near the venue, taken to various places and dropped back in Gadag after the tour.
The buses will leave Gadag by 7 am and will come back by 8 pm. The number of buses in operation in each circuit will depend on the number of tourists choosing the particular circuits. NWKRTC sources said it will open counters at the Sammelana venue for booking and sale of tickets.
Four packages will be available to delegates. The first circuit will cover Lakkundi, the town that has 100 temples and 100 wells, the world heritage ruins of Hampi and Hospet dam in Bellary district. The ticket cost will be around Rs 250.
The second route will cover the historical Banashankari temple in Bagalkot district, the world heritage cave temples of Badami, Aihole and Pattadkal. The ticket will cost around Rs 200.
The third circuit will include religious places like the Yallammana Gudda and Navilu Teertha in Savadatti in Belgaum district. The tickets will be sold at Rs 190.
The fourth tour will include the Magadi lake in Gadag district that attracts migratory birds, the Jain Basadis of Lakshmeshwar, Somanath temples, Venkatapur temples, and the stone temples of Kappatagudda and Dambal. This will cost around Rs 180 per person.
Tourism counter
The tourism department will set up a counter at the Sammelana. It will also put up signboards and posters providing information about such places around Gadag.
Volunteers will distribute pamphlets about tourist places in north Karnataka. "We will try to distribute T-shirts and caps with slogans to volunteers, Hiremath said.
